Carelli fatally shot Chamberlain inside of his apartment in White Plains, NY after he and several other officers responded to a medical emergency alarm that was mistakenly set off. When officers asked Chamberlain to open his door, he refused. After a two-hour standoff, officers forced their way through his door. That is when officers claimed that Chamberlain advanced towards them with a knife, which in turn made officer Carelli shoot Chamberlain. The 68-year-old vet died from his injuries.
