Black WWII Vets Relegated To ‘Supporting Roles’ To Recieve Congressional Gold Medals


On this Memorial Day, we celebrate the fine men and women who fought and continue to fight bravely for our country. Though, every year, there are always a few soldiers whose contributions to the U.S. Armed Forces were never recognized or celebrated.

Next month, the Montford Point Marines, a group of Black American soldiers who were forced to segregated training and supporting roles during World War II, will be honored with Congressional Gold Medals next month, the Detroit Free Press reports. Last year, Congress voted for a Congressional Gold Medal for their service. President Barack Obama approved the honor.
