Nicki Minaj (pictured) made quite a stir in the political arena recently, after she placed her name in the middle of President Barack Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s tightly contested battle for the White House this fall. Minaj, signed to rapper Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint, made a return to her mixtape rap roots as a featured act on her label chief’s latest mixtape, “Dedication 4.” In her verse — which is barely fit to print — Minaj seems to endorse Romney.  Monday morning, President Obama dismissed the jab on Florida station Power 95.3’s morning program, “The Obie & Lil Shawn Show.”

In Minaj’s verse, she rapped, “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/ You lazy b*****s is f****** up the economy.” In response, President Obama laughed off the occurrence while on-air and moved on to more important matters during a campaign stop in the Sunshine State.

“I’m not sure that’s actually what happened,” Obama said. “I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that. But she likes to play different characters, so I don’t know what’s going on there.”

While Obama acknowledged the he and First Lady Michelle Obama have a “nice little hip-hop collection,” he says they defer to their daughters for what’s trendy in the world of music.

Nicki Minaj hasn’t actually stumped for Mitt Romney on the campaign trail so far – which wouldn’t make sense as she’s not even registered to vote.

Can we chalk this up to a rapper’s attempt at being irreverent?
