Should the U.S. have alcohol-free zones?

Each year alcohol-related deaths reach 2 million worldwide despite high-profile awareness campaigns. Is it time for cities across America to become alcohol- free zones? According to Dave Andrews, recovering alcoholic and author of The Sobriety Solution, some towns have had dramatic results from doing just that, including a town in Alaska
that abolished the sale of alcohol and saw a 70% reduction in alcohol-related crime and accidents. Is prohibition right for our cities? Share your opinion this Saturday at 1pm.

What can convince an intelligent, rational individual to commit an act of terror in the name of God? Author and former religious zealot Nader Pourhassan knows the answer to this question because he was indoctrinated by radical Muslim ideology at an early age. Born in Iran, Pourhassan was told by his own grandmother to hate Jews and Christians, whom she considered to be “the most impure people” in the world. He says he was brainwashed by the inflammatory rhetoric of Iran’s theocratic dictatorship, and he believes that in 2010 many Iranians continue to have their minds molded in a similar fashion.

Nader Pourhassan will share his story this Saturday at 1pm.

Are you in jeopardy of losing your home? Join Bernie McCain TODAY to find out what you can do save it!

Darren Duarte, Communications Director for the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) joins Bernie McCain this afternoon at 4:00pm to discuss the 24 hour-a-day, 8 day Save-The-Dream event. The event will be held Friday, July 23 through Friday, July 30 at the Washington Convention Center.

More than 60,000 people came to NACA’s last event in Georgia. It ran for over 100 straight hours. The Save the Dream Event in Washington will go much longer, eight days, 24 hours straight which totals close to 200 hours. Many homeowners get mortgage payments cut the very same day by hundreds of dollars a month and sometimes over $1,000/month. And it’s free.

The overall health of the American population has improved over the past few decades, but African Americans have not shared equally in these improvements. Racial and ethnic stereotyping and bias in medical care in the United States occur across the full spectrum of disease categories and medical and surgical procedures. The pervasive if sometimes unconscious discrimination is part of a health care system that leaves 40 million Americans without health insurance, and guarantees that US minorities live sicker and die younger than whites. Discrimination endangers not only patients, but also the egalitarian commitments and ethics of medicine, and the democratic principles of society as a whole.

So why do African Americans experience the highest rates of obesity, hypertension, diabetes , kidney disease and heart disease? Find out this Saturday at 1pm.

Low black pupil achievement: Who's keeping the real stats under wraps and why?

The No Child Left Behind national education program pinpoints the increasing number of failing, predominantly black schools. Why do black pupils in any school, on all levels, in all states, regardless of family income do so badly? In his controversial book, The Emperor Has No Clothes:The Crisis in American Inner City Schools, Dr. Richard J. Gordon states that this is not due to poor facilities, lack of money, poor teachers, or racism. He asserts that the REAL reasons black students so often fail in school are black peer pressure to do poorly, poor black parenting, and poor black leadership. Is this true? We’re talking to Dr. Gordon this Saturday to find out.
