Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, millions of people around the world have convinced themselves that the actual perpetrators were not al-Qaeda terrorists, but elements within the U.S. government seeking a pretext to launch wars abroad and enact draconian laws at home. These “9/11 Truthers” are not alone. They are part of a vast conspiracist subculture that is spreading like wildfire and beginning to influence mainstream politics.

For two years, Canadian journalist Jonathan Kay has been researching the underground world of conspiracy theorists by immersing himself in their ranks. In her controversial new book, “The Cheating Guide” (From A Woman’s Point of View), author Jay West gives insight to the many questions she says people have about playing the cheating game. The book is intended as a guide for men and claims that the fantasy affair is achievable if you know the rules and are willing to follow them.

Wright On The Edge Debates The “Myth” Of White Privilege

White privilege is a term that has historically been used to identify the privileges, opportunities, and gratuities offered by the American society to anyone who is Caucasian and not a member of an ethnic group. This has manifested itself in a number of ways, such as, better housing, education, economic opportunities, and higher wages, etc. for Caucasians.

It is a Eurocentric attitude of superiority that is perpetuated in America by the so-called “Good Ole Boy” system of covert racism that prevents non-whites from recieving equal, fair and just treatment.

The biggest problem with white privilege is the invisibility it maintains to those who benefit from it most. The inability to recognize that many of the advantages whites hold are a direct result of the disadvantages of other people, contributes to the unwillingness of white people, even those who are not overtly racist, to recognize their part in maintaining and benefiting from white supremacy.

Wright On The Edge Exposes The Failed Global War On Drugs

What do former US Secretary of State George Schultz, US Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volker, the former Presidents/Prime Ministers of Colombia, Greece, Mexico, Switzerland and Brazil (along with many other top world leaders) all have in common? As part of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, they issued a report late last week stating, “The global war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world.” The Commission then went on to recommend “experimentation by governments with models of legal regulation of drugs to undermine the power of organized crime and safeguard the health and security of their citizens.”

Clearly, with the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s declaration of the War on Drugs coming up this week, it is time for some drastically new thinking about America’s drug problem. What’s more, althought it has been over two years since the Obama administration’s drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske boldly told us that he ended the drug war, nothing could be further from the truth.

Wright On The Edge Examines How We Judge The Attractiveness Of Others

The general topic of attractiveness is important to members of virtually every culture, especially to the young who seek romantic partners and to those who seek to extend their influence in society through contact with others. Attractiveness is significant to each individual and to most people whom the person meets, and the effects of attractiveness could extend to virtually every other impression a person makes. Attractiveness to a psychologist means how others perceive and rate the desireability of a person’s features. Such ratings or opinions depend partly on inherent physical attractiveness of the facial features and partly on other factors, for example, how these features are “packaged” or presented.

But are there universal standards of attractiveness, and do black women in particular fall short of these standards?

According to evolutionary psychologist Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa, there is a set of data which shows black women to be “objectively” less attractive than white, Asian or Native American women, but that the same data does not find black men less attractive than men of other races. Kanazawa accepts this data and then tries to explain why it is the case. He suggests that black people have more testosterone than other races, and so possess “more masculine features.” He states too that women are “objectively” more attractive than men, so if black women have more masculine features, this explains why they are rated less attractive. Is there any truth to his assertion?

Wright On The Edge Discusses National Security Threats Of The 21st Century

Do we pay too much attention to terrorism?

The United States Department of Defense defines terrorism as “the calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological.” Within this definition, there are three key elements—violence, fear, and intimidation—and each element produces terror in its victims. The FBI uses this: “Terrorism is the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” The U.S. Department of State defines “terrorism” to be “premeditated politically-motivated violence perpetrated against non-combatant targets by sub-national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience. Outside the United States Government, there are greater variations in what features of terrorism are emphasized in definitions.

There is no universally agreed, legally binding, criminal law definition of terrorism. Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for a religious, political or ideological goal, deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians), and are committed by non-government agencies.

Today’s world is a dangerous place. Our security is at risk from terrorists, belligerent states, and the proliferation of weapons that can cause unimaginable, massive destruction. We are also threatened by less obvious foes such as pandemic disease, weak and corrupt governments, and the spread of anti-Americanism.

The conservative strategy to meet today’s threats is bankrupt. They have missed crucial opportunities. Their rhetoric has squandered world sympathy and support. Allies we need to conquer terror have been alienated. Poor strategic planning has weakened military morale and capabilities. Ideologically based Pentagon-focused policy-making is breeding instability abroad, exacerbating the conditions that make us vulnerable. The conservative strategy is making the world less safe, and the American people are searching for an alternative.
