ESPN Reporter Calls MLK “Martin Luther Coon”

ESPN host Mike Greenberg made a big mistake on his show yesterday. He referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as “Martin Luther Coon.” He says he made the mistake by slurring his words and mixing King with Junior and coming up with “coon” and issued an apology.

Obama Grades Himself “Solid B+” For First Year In Office

WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama, in remarks aired late Sunday, awarded himself a B plus for his first 11 months in office, stressing in an interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey that there was still much to be done.

“A good solid B plus,” Obama said during an hour-long, intimate soft-focus ABC network Christmas at the White House special, when Winfrey asked what grade he would give himself.

Explaining why he wouldn’t give himself top marks, the president said his administration had “inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt” which they were still working on.

He had earned good points for helping to stabilize the economy, setting a path out of Iraq and restoring America’s international image, but the job was not yet finished.

“B plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed. If I get health care passed, we tip into A minus,” Obama said, his hair visibly grayer than when he took office on January 20.

DC Has Highest STD Rate In The Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington, D.C. has earned the top spot in the nation for the highest rates of sexually-transmitted diseases.

According to a new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the District has a Chlamydia rate of 1,177 cases per 100,000 people, A Gonorrhea rate of 451.5 cases per 100,000 people and a Syphilis rate of 24.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Those D.C. rates are three to four times the rate of Virginia and Maryland.

The Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care located in the heart of Adams Morgan in Northwest D.C. routinely reaches out to teenagers to teach them about STDs, treatment and prevention. Alis Marachelian is the Health Promotions Director.

“Anything that has to do with sex and disease there is definitely a taboo and that’s what we’re trying to pierce by having open communication,” Marachelian said.

The government estimates there are roughly 19 million new cases of sexually-transmitted disease each year.

Misspelled Highway Sign Leads To “Reagen”

WASHINGTON – A big spelling error has been spotted on a new sign over I-395 north just outside Washington, D.C.

The Virginia Department of Transportation admits it goofed in spelling Reagan National Airport.

You can see it reads Reagan with an ‘en” at the end instead of “an”.

V-Dot says the signs will be fixed soon.

Arlington House Fire Leaves 16 Homeless

ARLINGTON, Va. – A fire at a home along Glebe Road and 9th Street has left sixteen people homeless.

The fire started around 3 a.m. and was discovered after one family member came home from work and found smoke in the house.

Everyone made it out safely.

Firefighters found one smoke detector in the home, but it was not working.

The family is now working with the Red Cross to find a place to stay and fire investigators are searching for the cause.
