Maryland officials say the state is signing deals to buy electricity generated by four wind and solar projects in the region.
Maryland Energy Administration Director Malcolm Woolf said Tuesday the 20-year contracts will cover 23 percent of the electricity used annually by state agencies and institutions.
The state will buy all the electricity generated by a 55-megawatt wind farm near Keyser, W.Va., planned by US Wind Force of Greensburg, Pa., and a 13-megawatt solar project that Baltimore-based Constellation Energy is building in Frederick County.
The state will buy some of the power produced by a Garrett County wind farm planned by Annapolis-based Synergics Inc., and an offshore wind farm that Bluewater Wind of Hoboken, N.J., plans to build off the Delaware cost.
