Metro on Wednesday fired a bus driver who struck a pedestrian last month in Southeast D.C. The incident occurred on April 13, shortly before 8:50 p.m., as the W2 Route Metrobus was turning right from Irving Street onto Alabama Avenue, according to Metro. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital; the person’s status was not available Wednesday. The driver, whose name was not released, was put on paid administrative leave during the investigation into the crash, but was found to have failed “to follow standard operating procedures,” said Metro spokesman Reggie Woodruff.

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) — Metro has suspended all above ground metro stations and all bus services starting at 1 p.m. due to the heavy snowfall covering the third rail.

A metro press release explains, “The third rail must be clear of snow and ice because it is the source of electricity that powers the trains.”

Bus service has been suspended because of safety concerns as the roadways become increasingly impassable. This includes Metro Access, but round trip returns will be honored. National airport has also been shut down.

Underground Metro Service is running as follows:

Yellow Line – Service from Pentagon to Crystal City only

Red Line – Service between Medical Center and Union Station only

Orange Line – Service between Ballston and Stadium-Armory only

Green Line – Service between Fort Totten and Congress Heights only

Blue Line – Service between Ballston (extended to Blue Line) and Stadium-Armory only

WASHINGTON — The latest complaint against a Metro operator may be the most disturbing yet. Transit agency officials say a bus operator got into an argument with a passenger and refused to let that passenger off the bus last Saturday.

After Metro Transit Police responded and took statements from the driver, the passenger and witnesses, they determined that the driver of the bus, Michael Eric Robinson, wrongfully detained the woman. They charged him with kidnapping.

The July 25 episode unfolded on the D14 line to the Southern Avenue station in Prince George’s County.

According to the police reports, the woman boarded the bus at the Suitland Metro stop and got into a verbal dispute with the driver, who reported to Metro Transit Police he was holding a disorderly passenger. The passenger then took a picture of the bus number to later file a complaint.

When the woman went to leave the bus, Robinson pulled the bus over and refused to let her leave until Metro Transit Police arrived. The bus was stopped for a half hour.

Robinson has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation into the incident continues.
