Speaking through his attorney, Mark O’ Mara, Zimmerman says he understands the gravity of his actions when he shot Trayvon dead in what he says was an act of self-defense.

“He does not take the result of that altercation lightly at all. That weighed on him, I would imagine, more than the isolation, more than the last six weeks, more probably than the threat of what is to come in the system,” O’Mara said.
In an earlier interview with “Today,” Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon’s mother, said that Zimmerman should apologize for killing her son if he is truly remorseful.
“One of the things that I still believe in: A person should apologize when they really — when they are actually remorseful for what they’ve done,” Fulton said.
Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in Trayvon’s death. O’Mara has not sought bail for Zimmerman. If convicted, Zimmerman faces life in prison. His formal arraignment on the murder charge is May 29th.
