(Richmond, VA)  —  Just in time for back-to-school shopping, Virginia’s fourth annual sales tax holiday begins today and runs through Sunday.  Joel Davison with the Virginia Department of Taxation says for the next few days, many school supplies costing 20-dollars or less each along with clothing items and footwear costing 100-dollars or less each will be exempt from Virginia’s five-percent sales tax.  Davison says the tax holiday is not just for people with kids heading back to school, so it’s also a good time for adults to stock up on office supplies or clothing.  In addition, many retailers who sell items which not included on the list may choose to pay the sales tax themselves to boost sales and save taxpayers money.  It is estimated that shoppers will save four-million dollars in sales taxes this year.  To find a list of tax exempt items, log on to http://www.tax.virginia.gov.  Neither the District nor Maryland will be having their tax holidays this year.
