CPS Sought To Remove 6 Children From Texas Home

In 2013, Child Protective Service officials filed a lawsuit seeking to remove six children from a Texas home where they were killed by their mother’s ex-boyfriend just this past weekend.

Citing “immediate danger,” the officials warned that the children should be removed, but the lawsuit was dismissed six months later. It is unknown what prompted the dismissal and officials declined to comment on the confidential records, the Houston Chronicle writes.

What emerges from the court filing is a string of allegations dating back nearly four years against Valerie Jackson, her husband, Dwayne Jackson, and her ex-boyfriend, David Ray Conley. The children, then ages 4 to 12, told caseworkers they were left unsupervised and “whooped.”

Caleb Jackson, a 7-year-old “special needs child,” was discovered wandering in the middle of a busy intersection by their home one summer night in 2013, according to a DFPS affidavit filed with the court. Another boy talked about “getting whooped all the time for things he does not even know about.”

In 2012, the agency received an allegation that Dwayne Jackson, 50, threatened to kill his wife and all of the children, according to the affidavit.

Conley, who had one son with Valerie Jackson, allegedly admitted to killing Jackson, her husband, and the six children — identified as Jonah Jackson, 6; Trinity Jackson, 7; Caleb Jackson, 9; Dwayne Jackson Jr., 10; Honesty Jackson, 11; and Nathaniel Conley, 13 — over the weekend.

Vernessa Conley, his estranged wife, said the accused killer attacked the family on their 29th wedding anniversary. In an interview with MyFoxHouston, she called her husband a “devil.”

“If I hadn’t left he probably would have killed me,” says Mrs. Conley. Vernessa Conley married David Conley when she was 19 years old.

“He was very charming, nice all the time…He was so nice, called me every day” but a month into the marriage Conley says that drastically changed after she says she didn’t appropriately do the laundry “and I didn’t clean it right and he got angry and he shoved me in the tub and just started beating me in the tub.”

Conley remains behind bars on capital murder charges.
