(Baltimore, MD) — The new dean of the University of Maryland School of Law is proof of just how far the school has come. Fifty-eight-year-old Phoebe Haddon, who is African-American, was hired last month, 79 years after the university denied admission to Thurgood Marshall. Marshall sued the school on behalf of another African-American student and paved the way for Brown versus the Board of Education. Haddon is considered a consensus-builder who will push the school to take a more active role in the community. She comes to the school from Temple University, where her husband is a law professor.
