The news of Aretha Franklin being in hospice has caused an outpour of love from celebrities and fans everywhere.  As a result of the recent news of the Queen of Soul being in her final days spiritual leaders are planning vigils in the Motor City and in DC.

Prayer services for the Queen of Soul have been scheduled for Wednesday in Detroit and today outside the White House.

Washington D.C. activist and church leader Rocky Twyman announced the prayer vigil would be held from 2-4 p.m. on the north side of the White House.

“Fans are urged to bring their memorabilia and praying hearts,” Twyman said in a statement. “We expect to have some local gospel artists to be present to sing and perform.”

The event, according to Twyman’s statement, will conclude with a crowd rendition of “We Shall Overcome,” honoring Franklin’s civil rights legacy and relationship with Martin Luther King, Jr.

In Detroit, New Bethel Baptist Church, where Franklin’s father was once a pastor, is holding a prayer service for Franklin at 5 a.m. Wednesday.
