T.I. continues to perform charitable acts this year, bailing out 23 nonviolent offenders from the DeKalb County Jail on Sunday (April 21).

With the help of Scrapp DeLeon from VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga., the Atlanta rapper bailed seven women and 16 men out of lockup, all nonviolent and first-time offenders. In a news report from local station Fox 5, the church exceeded a $40,000 goal set during Lent with additional contributions from T.I., raising up to $120,000 to bail people out for the holiday.

New Birth’s senior pastor Dr. Jamal Bryant was elated with the outpouring of support from the community, the hip-hop mogul, and the reality TV star.

“It’s almost like finally meeting the good Samaritan – somebody who you don’t know that you didn’t see coming,” Bryant said about the program and its recipients. “They’re appreciative to be able to press the refresh button.”

In what is being called the “Bail Out” program, the New Birth Church will reach out to all recipients, connecting them with mentors for weekly check-ins. Money raised from the donations will also be used to jumpstart college savings for the children of those who were detained. Tyron Pollard, one of the program recipients, looks at this as a second chance.

“It’s like a new clean slate,” Pollard said. “For people to just reach out, willing to help out of the blue, them not knowing you for nobody… that’s a blessing.”

For T.I., this is one of many instances where he extended a helping hand in times of need. In March, Tip was recognized by Sen. Donzella James for creating several nonprofit organizations for the city of Atlanta, including the Harris Community Works and For the Love of our Fathers. Both nonprofits assist those that are disadvantaged and people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, respectively.

The Grand Hustle CEO also participated in a shopping spree at The Marathon Clothing Store, celebrating the life of late LA artist Nipsey Hussle.
