DMX is getting back in the groove of acting following his release from prison this year. The New York rapper will play a detective in a psychological thriller entitled Chronicle of a Serial Killer.

According to HotNewHipHop, DMX will join a cast featuring the likes of Brandon Sexton (Russian Doll), Tara Reid, Jake Busey, and Michael Madsen.  The film, directed by Steve Stanulis, follows Sexton as Henry Brolin, a serial killer who targets women that he believes will become like his mother. DMX will be cast as Detective White, tasked with investigating Brolin and his crimes.

Stanulis showed great enthusiasm for X’s casting and his engaging persona, as he tells The Blast.

“Casting DMX as Detective White to me is a perfect fit,” Stanulis said. “As a director, I always like going against the grain a bit. Also being familiar with his work over the years I have no doubt he is going bring a different dynamic to the role. It will be fun working with him and the rest of the cast on this one!”

Filming for the movie is scheduled to take place in June, right outside of NYC.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, started receiving his acting chops while starring in the 1998 cult favorite film Belly as “Tommy ‘Buns’ Brown.” He would later appear in a number of action films with Jet Li (Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 The Grave) and Steven Segal (Exit Wounds). He’s currently on tour to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot while also making appearances at Kanye West’s Sunday Service events, most recently at Coachella for Easter.
