Ben Standig & Kevin Sheehan: What now with Trent Williams & the Washington Football Team; trade or extend?

Washington Football Team Insider Ben Standig of The Athletic joins The Kevin Sheehan show to give his take on Ron Rivera and Trent Williams finally communicating and tells us what he expects next.

Multiple reports surfaced yesterday that Ron Rivera and Trent Williams finally had communication, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that it was a positive conversation that took place between Ron and Trent, who actually called back Ron.

“I’m not surprised the Washington Football Team eventually tried to reach out to Trent Williams and potentially try to salvage the situation and try to bring him back,” Ben tells Kevin. “My question has been, ‘where is Trent Williams’ head with regards to the organization? Because it was so striking last year when he came into the locker room and reamed out Bruce Allen and the training staff, but he continued to praise the opener, Dan Snyder in away that was almost kind of bizarre because of the way he was sort of trashing the place.”

After  he Washington Football Team placed Trent on the reserve/non-football-injury list, ending his season before it ever began on November 7th of 2019, his comments changed a little bit towards the owner. Williams told ESPN Washington Football Team insider John Keim,”You expect it and it’s still disappointing. It is what it is. That’s their option.”

“He was clearly out on the Bruce Allen situation, so I think that’s my biggest question, where is he at with the owner?” Standig says. “Does Trent Williams still have issues with the owner where too much has happened and he can’t handle it, and he says ‘I want out?’? Or is his real issue with people that are no longer there, and he’s listening to this new guy. People seem to like Ron Rivera, and it’s a new training staff and he’s open to returning.”
