The Brian Mitchell Show: Is Bradley Beal As Good Or Better Than Peak Gilbert Arenas?

Bradley Beal scored a career-high 55 points in Monday night’s OT loss against the NBA-leading Milwaukee Bucks, topping his previous career-high, 53, which he set Sunday in another loss to the Bulls. Beal became the first player in franchise history to score 50 points in consecutive games and the first NBA player since Kobe Bryant in 2007 to accomplish the feat on back-to-back nights.

The former Florida Gator has since moved to second in the NBA in points per game at 30.1, behind James Harden’s 35.3 ppg.

After a sensational fourth quarter where Beal scored 22 points over a seven minute span, NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes joined Tuesday’s The Brian Mitchell Show w/ Scott Linn on the Team 980/95.9 FM and compared Beal to one of the franchise greats.

“Beal is entering a territory where he is as good or maybe even better than Gilbert Arenas was at his peak,” Hughes adamantly stated. 

The Wizards trailed by as much as 17 in the fourth quarter Monday, before Beal and the Wizards came storming back.

With the playoff hopes still alive, the Wizards will have to put more effort on the defensive end. They currently sit 4.5 games behind the eighth seed Magic with 26 games left in the regular season.

“That’s been a problem for the Wizards coming out of the All-Star break,” Hughes expressed. “They had been showing some defensive progress before the break. It was a small sample size, about 4 or 5 games, but they were ranking about average defensively, which is a major improvement because they had been historical inept in that regard this season.”

The Wizards are back in action Wednesday night as they host the Brooklyn Nets at Capitol One Arena.
