WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Metrobus driver who struck and critically injured a 30-year-old jogger earlier this month has been fired.

Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says bus driver Carla A. Proctor was fired Monday. According to a Metro statement, Proctor was dismissed for failing to follow standard operating procedures.

Farbstein would not elaborate but says D.C. police are investigating.

Proctor was driving an empty bus when she struck Amanda Mahnke, a congressional staffer for Washington Rep. Rick Larsen.

The Sept. 3 accident was Proctor’s third on-the-job crash in the past seven years. Proctor received remedial training after both prior crashes, in 2003 and 2004, were deemed preventable.

In January, Proctor received five personal traffic tickets.
