Metropolitan Police Department officials say three people are in custody after a shootout led to a police chase in Northwest Washington early Monday morning.

Police tell ABC 7 News, around 4: 30 a.m., officers witnessed multiple shots being exchanged between two cars in the 5800 block of East Capitol Street. When the suspects saw police, they began shooting at the officers, police said. Officials say a chase ensued.

Officers chased the vehicle from D.C. into Virginia, then back into the District, until the chase ended in Southeast. The suspects were arrested at the Malcolm X Avenue exit on Northbound 295.

No injuries were reported.
