Fairfax County Police are looking to curb gang activity in Reston this summer with a new program.

(Reston, VA) — Operation Summer Heat, a Fairfax County Police program aimed at deterring gang activity in Reston, will get underway tomorrow. Over the next four weeks, officers on patrol and plain-clothes officers will be out in force on Reston’s trails trying to target gangs, identify gang members and foster awareness within communities about criminal street gangs. Police say there were 27 gang-related incidents in Reston during the first half of this year. That actually compares favorably to the 49 such incidents reported over the first six months of 2008. However, police say criminal and gang-related activity has been seen on and near Reston’s trails over the past few months.
