A new DC fire chief is on the job. Kenneth Ellerbe took over yesterday after being appointed by Mayor Vincent Gray. Ellerbe has been a DC firefighter in the past. He was with the department for 27 years before he left in 2009 to take the job as fire chief in Sarasota, Florida. Ellerbe has said one of his priorities will be to work on fairness within the department and strengthening ties with the firefighters union. He replaces Dennis Rubin, who announced his resignation in October.
