President Obama gets back to work today following an eleven-day family vacation in Hawaii.  The President started his final afternoon in his homestate mingling with the locals and getting shaved ice in the town of Kailua with First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters, Sasha and Malia.  Obama then took the girls to the Honolulu Zoo after a brief stop at the cemetery where his grandfather is buried.  Upon leaving the Aloha State, Obama told reporters on Air Force One he hopes to work with GOP lawmakers to continue fixing the U.S. economy.  He said he expects Republicans to, quote, “play to their base for a certain period of time,” but added he’s confident both sides will be able to overcome politics when they remember their job is to serve the American people.  Obama also appealed to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and John Boehner [[ BAY-nur ]], who moved into the House Speaker post after Democrats lost control of the U.S. House in the November midterm elections.  Obama said, quote, “my hope is that John Boehner and Mitch McConnell will realize that there will be plenty of time to campaign for 2012 in 2012, and that our job this year is to make sure that we build on the recovery.”
