(Washington, DC)  —  DC Mayor Vincent Gray says he will join thousands of city workers when they take four furlough days this year.  Gray said in a statement that, quote, “I believe it is only fair that I, too, share the sacrifice.”  The DC Council passed emergency legislation requiring the furloughs, as the city tries to save more than 19-million-dollars for the remainder of fiscal 2011.  The four furlough days will take place on Presidents’ Day, Emancipation Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. The furloughs come as the city tries to bridge a budget gap of between 375-million and 500-million-dollars.  Critical agencies like the police, fire department, and child and family services will not be impacted.
