Vernon and Vontae Davis returned to their high school alma mater before heading to NFL training camps with the San Francisco 49 ‘ers and Miami Dolphins respectively for a free football camp for DC area kids. The All-Star Youth Football Camp gave the participants a chance to learn football skills from NFL players who were brought to Dunbar High school by two brothers who have already made history.
Vernon and Vontae are just the third pair of siblings to be drafted in the first round by NFL teams joining Peyton (Colts) and Eli Manning (NY Giants) along with Jerome (Eagles) and Stocker McDougle (Bucs) and shared their experience with more than 150 kids.
“It has always been a dream of ours to host a camp like this for kids in our hometown,” Vernon said. “This is a real blessing for my brother to be a part of this as well”.
In a time where NFL players are making bigger headlines for off field behavior issues this was a day where these athletes actually had a positive impact on their community. Check back for the companion SportsGroove TV piece later.
