(Atlanta, GA)  —  Entertainer Carlos Santana throws the annual Civil Rights Game a curveball.  Prior to the baseball contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Braves in Atlanta Sunday, actor Morgan Freeman and Hall of Fame baseball star Ernie Banks were honored along with Santana.  The Grammy award winning artist came to the microphone to speak after receiving Major League Baseball’s “Beacon of Change” award and told the crowd the state of Arizona and the city of Atlanta should be “ashamed” for passing controversial immigration measures.  Santana’s comment was met by boos from a number of fans in Turner Field.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a measure last meet which will permit police officers to check the immigration status of certain suspects.  It also requires employers to look at the immigration status of newly hired employees.  Arizona passed a similar immigration measure that sparked protests across the country last year.  As for action on the field yesterday, the Braves went on to beat the Phillies 3-2.
