AAA: High Gas Prices Won’t Impact Memorial Day Travel

(Washington, DC)  —  Triple-A is predicting nearly 35-million Americans will be traveling over this Memorial Day holiday weekend.  The auto group says soaring gas prices are unlikely to keep those people from going 50 miles or more from home.  Triple-A’s CEO says there could be a slight uptick in the number of Memorial Day travelers this year because of more air travel and the improving economy.  Close to 90-percent of people heading somewhere over the long weekend will get there by driving.
The national average price for regular unleaded gas is currently three-dollars-91-cents a gallon, compared to two-85 last Memorial Day.  Some motorists say they’ll deal with the higher gas prices by economizing in other areas, like taking a shorter trip or using an alternate mode of transportation.
