(Washington, DC) — Hundreds of nurses are expected to descend on Capitol Hill today to rally against proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Nearly one-thousand nurses from 31 states are set to participate in the demonstrations outside the White House, Congress and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters. National Nurses United will propose a new fair tax policy aimed at Wall Street to help rebuild the troubled economy and improve healthcare. The protest is part of an effort to promote a change in the government’s priorities. National Nurses United co-president Karen Higgins says proposed cuts to Medicaid would, quote, “place all the burden on the families who have already suffered far too much.”
