(Arlington, VA)  —  It was a nightmare commute for some Metro commuters yesterday afternoon. Orange Line trains had to single-track through the Clarendon station after a person was struck by a train.  To make matters worse, escalators shut down at the next station up the line in Rosslyn which was packed with commuters at the time.

Metro says the escalators were supposed to shut down because the system became overcrowded. A number of riders had to be treated by medical personnel after they had to climb the stairs to exit the system.  As for the person struck by the train, Metro says he got into the train’s path intentionally.  At last word the man was in critical condition.

This commuter describes her experience on Metro.
