(Washington, DC)  –  African-Americans are being urged by the National Urban League to get out and vote at election time.  The organization views it as a way to counter state laws it says threaten the educational and economic progress made by blacks.  The 101-year-old civil rights group has made “Occupy the Vote” the theme for its annual State of Black America report.  The report is to be released Wednesday evening at a town hall meeting on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC.  Urban League CEO Marc Morial says new photo ID, registration and early voting laws could broaden the equality gap between white and black Americans by lowering political participation of African-Americans.
