How old is Mitt Romney? Mitt Romney is 65 years old. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee was born March 12, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. Should Romney defeat President Barack Obama in the November 2012 election, the former Massachusetts governor would become the fourth-oldest president-elect in U.S. history, after Ronald Regan, William Henry Harrison, and James Buchanan, who were 69, 68, and 65, respectively. (On inauguration day—Jan. 20, 2013—Romney will be 65 years and 314 days old; Buchanan was 65 years and 315 days old when he became president in 1857.)

At 65 years old, Romney would be far and away the oldest incoming president since Reagan in 1981. President Obama was just 47 when he took the oath of office in 2009. His successor, George W. Bush was 54, while Bill Clinton was 46. Clinton, though youthful, was not the youngest man to park a moving van outside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. That honor belongs to John F. Kennedy, who was just 43 years old when he became leader of the free world in 1961.

MUST READ: What Is Mitt Romney Worth?

Does Romney’s age make him a good candidate? That depends on your point of view. Only 10 presidents have been 60 or older at their time of inauguration: Reagan, Harrison, Buchanan, George H. W. Bush, Zachary Taylor, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Andrew Jackson, John Adams, Gerald Ford and Harry S. Truman. Those men accomplished some great things, but notable presidents who assumed office in their 50s, include George Washington (57), Abraham Lincoln (52) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (51). Romney’s running mate, 42-year-old Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, doesn’t think age is a factor, though he did poke fun at Mitt during the Republican National Convention. “We’re a full generation apart, Gov. Romney and I,” Ryan said, according to CNN. “I hope it’s not a deal-breaker, Mitt, but my playlist starts with AC/DC, and ends with Zeppelin.”

Figure Romney had any idea what he was talking about?
