“How bout I blasted both of them. The girl in my class hair is nappy almost every day and the boy wears dirty clothes, face nasty and can’t even read. They didn’t bother nobody else when I got through with them,” Rainshaven Elementary School teacher Tameka Gatewood(pictured) posted to her Facebook wall in reference to a fight between two of her students.

Another post apparently threatens the children’s parents for complaining about her teaching: “If another parent tell me it’s my job to teach their children, it’s gonna be po po time.”

One even jokingly suggests using guns as a means to solving conflict. “What do you think you’re supposed to do? Bang! Bang! Shoot ‘em up dammit! Just kidding!! For real tho – slap their ass back then Bang! Bang! Shoot ‘em up dammit.”
Watch a news report about Gatewood’s suspension:
The Memphis City School district issued the suspension shortly after Action News 5, a local Tennessee news outlet, notified them of Gatewood’s comments. According to her personal file, however, this is far from the first time MCS has disciplined her. She has multiple infractions for insubordination. In 2002, a principal at Gatewood’s former school wrote a letter to the district begging for them to remove her.
It’s worth noting that while many employers now check potential applicants’ FB profiles, MCS has no such policy in place for teachers. But that isn’t an excuse for them to act in any manner they want online, according to MCS School Board Commissioner Tomeka Hart.
“I agree we don’t have a specific social media policy, but we do have ethics,” Hart told WMCTV.com. “We do have professionalism. We expect our teachers to act as adults whether they’re in social media or otherwise.”
Parents who saw the comments were appalled that Gatewood was permitted to teach despite her actions. “That’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t want anyone like that teaching my child, over them, trying to teach them the value of life…period,” said Monica Watson. Watson also believes Gatewood should be terminated.
“She needs to be up out of here,” Watson said. “Because how can you do your job and that’s what you think about students?”
“See, stuff like this shouldn’t go on in school,” said Samuel Christian.
Gatewood is suspended pending further investigation. As of this writing, her Facebook page is inactive.
