Sheila Stewart is an award winning media conglomerate whose career as a Radio, TV and Print Media Personality spans over 20 years. She is the News & Community Affairs Director for Radio One-DC Stations (93.9) WKYS-FM; (Praise 104.1) WPRS-FM; (1450)-WOL-AM); 1340-(WYCB-AM) and (102.3) WMMJ-FM.
Stewart received a BA Degree in Broadcast journalism from Benedict College and has also worked as an adjunct Professor of Journalism at several colleges.
More than 20 of her former students are working in radio-tv-print media all over the country.
Stewart devotes considerable time working with youth and organizations. She has mentored more than 40 at-risk girls and helped raised more than million dollars for charities such as The Susan Komen Race For The Cure, The United Negro College Fund, National Congress of Black Women; The 100 Black Men of America; The National Urban League; The National NAACP; The Jack & Jill Foundation; The United Negro College Fund and a host of others.
Stewart is also an accomplished writer and author. She wrote and published her first book "Faith and The 3 P's Overcoming Obstacles With Prayer, Persistence and Positive Thinking that received enthusiastic response and book signings.
Stewart has been honored by numerous organizations for community service work including the prestigious coveted "Crystal Award For Outstanding Community Service" by The National Association of Broadcasters; recipient of the National Community Service Award by the Federal Bureau of Investigations for raising $40,000 in one day for a missing 9 year old girl; recipient of The Keeper of the Community Service Award with US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and saluted with The News Director of the Year Award at The Washington Post.
Stewart is also a former Miss Black South Carolina 1st Runner-Up; Miss Benedict Homecoming Queen and a proud member of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sheila is happily married to Life Coach/ Sr. Pastor Bill Russell Founder of The International Worship Center Church in Laurel, MD and mother of a beautiful baby boy. Florida Avenue Baptist Church 150th Anniversary Emancipation Proclamation Concert
On Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 5:00 PM, the Florida Avenue Baptist Church (FABC) commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, with Emancipation Jubilation an original composition by Mr. William H. Sydnor, Sr., FABC Minister of Music. Featured are an ensemble of musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and the combined choirs of FABC and other churches of the Shaw neighborhood.
Now in its 2nd year, as a part of NSO’s 2013 “In Your Neighborhood” series, the Florida Avenue Baptist Church’s Emancipation Jubilation Concert is one of more than thirty events by twenty partnering organizations taking place in the U Street, Howard University, Shaw, and Logan Circle communities. All events are free and open to the public, but some venues may have a food or drink minimum. All events take place between Tuesday, January 8 and Monday, January 14.
