Obama Adviser Hints At Extending Unemployment Benefits

(Washington, DC) — The nation’s unemployed workers might see another extension of jobless benefits. National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers told NBC’s “Meet the Press” the Obama administration will work with Congress to “make sure unemployment insurance continues to perform its basic function of protecting the unemployed.” The economist said jobless benefits help the overall economy. Summers noted the benefits spark spending by those who receive them. Unemployment benefits have already been extended once.
