The latest development in implosion of Grambling State University’s athletics program is the firing of the student newspaper’s online editor and the suspension of the opinions page editor. Today on “NewsOne Now,” Roland Martin, David Lankster, Sr., the online editor of The Gramblinite, confirmed that he was given the axe, though he had not yet received an official termination letter as of air time. He said the move came after he Tweeted statements by anonymous sources and photos of facilities that appear to be in a state of disrepair.
“The statements that the PR director [William Sutton] and the [university] president [Frank Pogue] were making were not the sentiments of the students,” said Lankster. “It was more or less a watered-down version of the truth that I think was a ploy by the president to get rid of media attention.” A football game with Jackson State University was canceled two days ago, a casualty of a continuing boycott by Grambling players.
