Members of an investment club joined Roland Martin Tuesday on “NewsOne Now” to share how investment clubs work and how they’re useful for black Americans.

Donna Long and Angela Wilson-Wade of the Mahogany Money Makers sat in on the panel with their advisor, Wesley Watkins, and financial consultant Jennifer Streaks. Long and  Wilson-Wade said that the promise of financial education is what encouraged them to join the Mahogany Money Makers. Martin made the point that black Americans have a long history of participating in community-based investment clubs, in lieu of trying their hand with broker on the stock market.

“The idea of investment clubs have been around for a long time,” he said . “For a lot of African Americans, they’ve slowly began to embrace it because, look,  that idea of stocks and bonds and all that other stuff is not an easy thing to figure out.”

Listen to Martin’s full conversation with the Mahogany Money Makers Investment Club.
