New York City police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the shooting that killed a Bronx resident as he was holding his toddler child in his arms.
James Capers, 22, was arrested Wednesday, according to the NY Daily News. He was charged with opening fire in the fatal shooting that took the life of 21-year-old Allen McQueen.
McQueen’s daughter, Taylor, was physically unharmed during the July 7 shooting.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says the incident stemmed from an “ongoing gang war.”
From the Daily News:
McQueen had been arrested 23 times and ran with a street gang called the “Taylor Crew,” according to cops.
Capers was scheduled to appear in Bronx Supreme Court Tuesday as a grand jury weighs murder, manslaughter and weapon possession charges against him.
Capers was allegedly seen by an eyewitness opening fire on McQueen. In the days that followed, he openly bragged about killing the young dad, according to court papers.
The 22-year-old is being held without bail.
