It was a surreal sight in a Staten Island, New York neighborhood that’s unaccustomed to criminal activity. A witness looked out her window and saw a man wheeling a half-naked corpse on a dolly. The police arrested the suspect on Saturday and charged him with the murder of his common law wife, NBC News reports.
According to the news station, Anthony Lopez, 31, dumped his wife’s body in the grass and ran away on Friday morning when officers saw him wheeling the dead body of 26-year-old Aduba Obiamaka. Investigators found evidence of trauma on her body.
A tip led the police to a East Harlem housing complex on Saturday morning, where they caught Lopez, a Bronx resident. The authorities said Lopez cut his hair to change his appearance.
Lopez has a record of more than 50 arrests on charges ranging from robbery to assault. Investigators accused him of strangling Obiamaka and attempting to get rid of her corpse. He’s charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a dead body.
