It’s no secret that this year’s Republican National Convention, which kicks off Monday, will be full of contention as Donald Trump supporters face-off with groups calling for the party to reconsider his likely nomination.

But could it also be where racial tension — fueled by White nationalist endorsements and the nation’s recent climate of violence — comes to a head?

If this sign spotted at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena is any indication, things are going to get ugly.

Wall Street Journal reporter Byron Tau spotted the Jim Crow-esque signs Saturday, just two days before the GOP convention was set to start. “I’m told it’s being replaced for obvious reasons,” Tau posted. But who put them there and why is this still a mystery; RNC organizers have not responded to requests to comment on the questionable signage, the New York Daily News reports.

The oversight could spell devastation for Trump, who, in a recent poll, was found to not have received any percentage of the Black vote in Pennsylvania and Ohio. And with the sign calling on the discriminative and racist caste system that disenfranchised Black communities for generations — against the backdrop of Trump endorsements from former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke and many White nationalists groups — what may have been simple denotation now appears malicious in nature.
