A Washington D.C. Metro Transit Police officer has been arrested and charged for trying to provide material support to ISIS, ABC7 reporter Jeff Goldberg confirmed Wednesday. ABC News initially reported the story.
The Metro Transit Officer has been identified as Nicholas Young, 36, of Fairfax, who has been an officer with the Transit police since 2003.
Young reportedly sent money to people he thought were associated with ISIS, but those people were actually undercover FBI agents.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, law enforcement has been monitoring Young since 2010 when an acquaintance of his, named Zachary Chesser, pled guilty and admitted to “providing material support to terrorists.”

Over the years, Young had several interactions and meetings with undercover law enforcement officers, one of which included another one of Young’s acquaintances, named Amine El Khalifi, who later pled guilty to charges “relating to attempting a suicide bombing at the U.S. Capitol Building in 2012.”
According to an affidavit, Young told the FBI that he allegedly traveled to Libya twice in 2011, and had bee with rebels who were attempting to overthrow the Muammar Qaddafi regime. Baggage searches revealed that Young had traveled with “body armor, a Kevlar helmet, and other military-style items.”
On several occasions when Young met with undercover officers, he told the officers on “how to evade law enforcement detection by utilizing specific travel methods, and advised a FBI confidential human source to watch out for informants and not discuss his plans with others,” according to an affidavit.
