“Just because you love black p—- doesn’t mean you love black lives @BilldeBlasio,” Garner tweeted Thursday.
The tweet comes on the heels of De Blasio’s refusal to release the disciplinary records of Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the cop who wrestled Garner’s father Eric Garner to the ground in a chokehold, which led to his death in July 2014.
The Garner family and police reform advocates are frustrated with the mayor’s decision, coupled with an appeal against a judge’s order to release the records.
De Blasio says he’s following Section 50-A of the state civil rights law, which prevents the records’ release.
The New York Daily News reports state leaders have been in violation of the law numerous times:
“A spokesman for the mayor said the NYPD was for years in violation of the law, and is changing its practice to comply. On Thursday, Gov. Cuomo argued the law never stopped the release of similar files in the past. ‘The law hasn’t changed,’ Cuomo said. ‘Many, many years the NYPD disclosed the information. The NYPD now looks at the law and makes a different determination.’”
But Garner says she senses foul play from De Blasio and Cuomo, and is accusing them of “covering up this modern day lynching by their henchman!”
She also brought up De Blasio’s son, Dante, saying De Blasio has a responsibility to set a better example because ultimately, he’s raising a Black man.
“The thing that kills me is that De Blasio is raising a Black man..This is the example… My dad lays down and rolls over for white supremacy,” she tweeted.
Garner used Twitter to double down on her comments Friday afternoon after making headlines.
Black Twitter was divided about Garner’s comments. While most applauded her for speaking out about the explicit injustice of her father’s death, others found it problematic that she reduced McCray to a sexual object.
