Black Freshmen At UPenn Threatened To Be Lynched Over Text

On Friday morning, Black students at the University of Pennsylvania woke up to some racist and vile messages and pictures posted to a social media group that they were unknowingly added to.

According to the Daily Pennsylvanian students were added to a GroupMe message labeled “Mud Men” that boasted a picture of a lynching with the message “I love America,” followed by an event called “Daily lynching.”

Yes– it is 2016.

Thankfully, the school clapped back and issued a statement that they do not condone this racist behavior and that officials tracked the group’s founder to Oklahoma.

The Root wrote that the GroupMe is a group texting app that works across platforms but requires your phone number to work. But it’s not known how this group collected and targeted Black freshmen on the UPenn campus.

On Thursday the NBA-champion Cavaliers visited the White House for the customary ceremony with the president, but some players believe that next year others will opt out of the traditional visit because of Donald Trump.

According to NBC Sports, Cavs’ Richard Jefferson wrote on Snapchat:

ESPN sports analyst and former player Jalen Rose said Jefferson may be on to something.

What we’re going to see in professional sports—NBA and NFL—mark my words, there will be players that decline the opportunity to visit the White House under his presidency,” Rose said during NBA Countdown on Wednesday, Yahoo! noted.

Given the racist, sexist and xenophobic platform Trump ran on throughout his campaign, we wouldn’t blame anyone who didn’t want to be bothered with this new president.

Given the election results, it’s clear that some really do feel dead on the inside, but Facebook took it to a whole new level.

Apparently, on Friday, the super popular social media site suffered a glitch declaring thousands of living users, including its own founder Mark Zuckerberg, as “dead.”

Facebook folks sent Gizmodo a statement about the incident: “For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.”

A mess.
