Woman Abducted At Gunpoint At Metro, Suspect Caught

A woman was abducted at gunpoint yesterday at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and then forced into the trunk of her car and driven around for about an hour before being released, Fairfax County police said.

The woman, who was not injured, told police that she was dropped off in the Lorton area, about eight miles southwest of the Blue Line station. She walked to a home in the 8500 block of Silverdale Road and called 911 just before 7 p.m., said Officer Don Gotthardt, a police spokesman.

After the woman was freed, police officers spotted her car, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. They pursued it briefly before the driver lost control and crashed near Hooes and Furnace roads, Gotthardt said. He then fled on foot.

A few minutes before midnight, after police searched for hours with dogs and helicopters from the county police and U.S. Park Police, a man “popped out of the woods” near Hooes Road and Route 123, Gotthardt said.

The man was taken for questioning to county police headquarters, but as of shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, no one had been charged.

Gotthardt urged people in the neighborhood to remain vigilant, keeping their lights on and door and windows locked.

Investigators were interviewing the victim, but authorities released no details about her. Authorities planned to check video surveillance tapes from the Metro station’s garage to help them identify a suspect.

Diallo Outing, 22, of Oxon Hill, was charged with armed carjacking, abduction by force, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said. He was being held in the Fairfax jail Wednesday morning.
