VIA WJLA:

Authorities say a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while running to his bus stop Friday morning in Germantown.

Sources tell ABC 7 News the boy was attempting to reach the bus stop on Mateney Rd. between Clopper and Great Seneca Highway.

Accident Reconstruction teams are now on the scene speaking to witnesses and trying to figure out just how an Infinity sedan came in contact with boy. Bystanders say the boy rolled over the car after the impact.

“He must not of realized he hit somebody. He was just sitting there. A woman got out of the car and put a blanket on him…and made sure he was still breathing,” said Hazel King, Germantown resident

The driver stayed at the scene as did several witnesses, but police say they are still working on exactly what happened. The boy was struck at the intersection of Mateney and Cinnamon where there is a crosswalk.

The investigation is focusing on whether the boy ran out into the street, putting himself in the path of the car or whether speed was a factor.

“It’s way too early to tell. It’s a residential roadway. It’s a pedestrian struck. The collision reconstruction team will do a full reconstruction and come to that conclusion,” said Capt. Thomas Didone, Montgomery County Police.
