Red Line Resumes Normal Service

WASHINGTON, D.C – Metro says full service has been restored and repairs have been completed on the Red Line at the site of June’s fatal train crash near the Fort Totten station.

Still, there are still some safety concerns. Metro trains are still running in manual mode until problems with the signals are figured out. However, the good news is that you can expect more trains more often.

For passengers on the Red Line, that means their commute just got better.

“It was very smooth. Reasonable and got home just on time,” said Matthew Shoulders.

It took three months after two trains collided and nine people were killed, but Metro says all is back to normal near the accident site. To say service has been slow since repairs began is an understatement.

“It was taking me 15 minutes to get to work and now it’s up to a half hour,” said Reeda Arrington, a Metro rider.

“It’s an inconvenience because I get off late and I have to wait for the train, and then I miss the bus. That’s the only thing an inconvenience,” said Metro rider Gayle Ford.

Metro says Red Line trains are no longer traveling at reduced speeds between the Fort Totten and Takoma Metro Stations. Work to replace a track circuit has been completed.

For some, time and hard work has put safety back on track, too.
