The settlement follows an investigation revealing SMNA sold tens of thousands of flavored Zyn nicotine pouches through its website to District consumers between October 2022 and June 2024. Zyn pouches, marketed in flavors like mint and citrus, have raised concerns due to their health risks, especially among teens.

As part of the settlement, SMNA will monitor distributors for compliance, send annual reminders about the ban, and halt future sales of flavored products in D.C. through its website. Attorney General Brian Schwalb emphasized the ongoing commitment to enforcing the ban and protecting public health.
