VIA MYFOXDC:

BETHESDA, Md. – A Clarksburg High School teacher has been arrested and charged with two counts of armed robbery after police say he robbed a grocery store and a bank on Friday.

Investigators say Brendon Friedman, 41, of North Bethesda displayed a handgun at the pharmacy counter at a Bethesda Safeway and demanded Xanax and OxyContin. He fled on foot with the drugs before police arrived.

Witnesses say Friedman wore a blue surgical mask during the robbery.

About ninety minutes later, an M&T Bank also in North Bethesda was robbed. The robber said he had a gun and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Friedman’s defense attorney has requested a psychological examination of his client, who has a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and no previous criminal history.

Friedman has worked for Montgomery County Public Schools since 2005.

The school system has placed Friedman on administrative leave with pay until his case is resolved in the court system.
