Prince George’s County Fire Chief Collapses During Fireworks Safety Demo

CHELTENHAM, Md. – A Fourth of July fireworks safety demonstration took an alarming turn on Wednesday when Prince George’s County’s newly appointed fire chief, Thelmetria Michaelides, collapsed during the event. The incident occurred at the department’s training academy in Cheltenham.
Chief Michaelides, who recently assumed her role, was participating in a news conference and Q&A session when she suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, an on-site ambulance was immediately available to transport her to a nearby hospital. Reports confirm that she was conscious and breathing during the transport.
Former Fire Chief Tiffany Green, who has been actively involved in the department’s leadership transition, accompanied Michaelides to the hospital. Green’s presence underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring a smooth leadership handover during this challenging moment.
The fireworks safety demonstration was part of the department’s efforts to educate the public on safe practices during Independence Day celebrations. The event, however, took a somber turn with the unexpected medical emergency.
