(Washington, DC) — President Obama continued making his case for an aggressive and historic overhaul of the nation’s healthcare system yesterday. In a primetime news conference at the White House, the President linked the effort to economic recovery. He said healthcare reform is essential if the government wants to bring the U.S. economy back from the brink of a, quote, “full-blown crisis.”
President Obama says he’s pushing hard for healthcare reform because Americans are telling him to. During a primetime news conference from the White House on Wednesday, Obama said he feels rushed by letters from families struggling to pay healthcare bills. He says it’s not right for people to choose between paying for the care they need and avoiding bankruptcy. The President promised reform has to be done right and must not add to the federal budget deficit or he won’t sign off on it.
