(Washington, DC) — The U.S. Justice Department is being asked to investigate the Hyattsville Police Department amid allegations of racial discrimination against black police officers on the force. The Montgomery and Prince George’s County chapters of the NAACP are backing six black officers who work for the Hyattsville department, claiming they’re held to a different standard than white officers. The complaints date back to 2002. The civil rights group says black officers have been the targets of sexual harassment and wrongful termination, and they exist in a hostile work environment. The complaint was submitted to the Justice Department back on Friday. Hyattsville Police say they haven’t been able to review any of the documents related to the allegations.
