A Black guy and a skinhead walk into a bar.

One of them ends up “on the rocks.”

Daren Christopher Abbey, a self-proclaimed skinhead, wound up with facial fractures and unconscious, after being pummeled by a Black man he allegedly attempted to stab outside of an Idaho bar.

The victim of the hate crime, Marlon L. Baker, 46, told authorities he left the bar to avoid any trouble, after the skinhead told him, “Black people don’t belong in Bayview.”

Baker says his 28-year-old assailant, Daren Christopher Abbey, then followed him for over 300 yards, called him racial slurs, and threatened to stab him.

Out of fear of being stabbed, Baker says he punched Abbey one time, knocking him unconscious.

“He felt threatened – there was an actual threat that was made that he was going to get stabbed,” Lt. Stu Miller said. Abbey “actually followed him for quite some distance.”

Abbey, 28, was charged with malicious harassment after being treated at a hospital for facial fractures, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.

Abbey has several neo-Nazi tattoos and told Coeur d’Alene police in 2004 that he was an “independent skinhead” who didn’t like minorities, Miller said. Abbey, of Sacramento, Calif., said he is living as a transient in the Coeur d’Alene area after moving from Montana, Miller said. He remains in jail on $75,000 bond for felony charges of malicious harassment, which is Idaho’s hate crime law, and battery.
