How tall is Obama? Figuratively speaking, that’s one for the history books, but in terms of height, it’s an easy question to answer. Obama stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall. That puts him in a three-way tie with Andrew Jackson and Ronald Reagan for fifth place on the list of tallest U.S. presidents.

The tallest were Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon B. Johnson, who, at 6 feet, 4 inches, are tied for first on the list. They’re followed by Thomas Jefferson (6 feet, 2.5 inches); Franklin D. Roosevelt, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton (all 6 feet, 2 inches); and George Washington (6 feet, 1.5 inches).

The shortest president, James Madison, stood a mere 5 feet, 4 inches. That works out to 64 inches—6.8 inches below the presidential average of 70.8 inches. At 73 inches, Obama is taller than average, though if he were a professional basketball player, he’d be something of a small fry.
